Hi friends! I just learned that the One Room Challenge is starting again this week and, well, that works out perfectly because I’m in the middle of creating our guest room! Funny thing is the last time I participated, I also did our guest room. Hah!
If you’re not familiar, the One Room Challenge (ORC for short), is a six week long design challenge. That’s right: one space, six weeks. Sounds simple, right? But sometimes it’s not! It’s so fun to bounce around from room to room and project to project, that rooms can so easily be left in the 95% club. I’ll check in every week to document all of my progress here on the blog, so make sure to tune in every week to see where the project stands (and hopefully see a finished product in mid-November!). You can read more about the One Room Challenge here.
So, here’s what I’m working with:
Our house was newly built before we bought it earlier this year, so that means everything is clean! But it also means that there’s not a whole lot of personality in it. And everything is the same color. So, my plans in here include swapping the trim and adding a board and batten treatment to the wall by basically following the method that Young House Love did recently.
I loved the black ceiling in my previous guest bedroom reveal, but unfortunately this new room doesn’t get as much natural light. Plus, this house has all the air vents in the ceiling, which means painting ceilings in this house is unlikely since I would have to contend with lights, vents, smoke detectors, and even speakers in some rooms! Sooooo, forget that idea. I still want to do a bold color in this room, so I’ve picked a dark green. I’m hoping it will help bring some of the forest that’s right outside the window inside.
All that to say, here is a mood board of what I’ve got bouncing around in my head:
Greens, black and white, brass, and wood tones. What do you think? I’m so excited that I’m going to go work on it right now! And don’t forget that if you’re interested in seeing what other people are working on this fall, you can check that out here. Love, Shauna
