And we bought a house!
In a whirlwind of what has been life since summer 2019, a lot has been happening in our world! Matt got a new job and moved from the public sector to private in May. He was working remotely for a while, but once we returned from our summer trip to Europe, he started traveling a lot—almost to Puerto Rico, mostly to Houston, and then to Raleigh. We got the word that we were going to be relocated, but waited a couple months before contracts were signed to initiate the move. Then, while Matt was in North Carolina and I was in Colorado, I worked with the best realtor to stage and sell our townhouse. I tried to work remotely with my local graphic design job, but it wasn’t in the cards unfortunately, so I had to give my notice. We packed up a U-haul and drove across the country, threw everything in a storage unit, and stayed in an Airbnb for a few weeks while I looked for a new house. We were pleasantly surprised by a new build that had been recently completed and went under contract quickly. With that all set up, I was lucky enough to spend a month back in Colorado, skiing with my family. It was glorious. And Matt was able to close on the house while I was gone. Everything was quite hectic, but in retrospect it worked out really well, because about a week after I got back to North Carolina and into our new house, we started quarantining due to the coronavirus pandemic. Whirlwind.
So here we are, in warm North Carolina. We are loving the area that we are in and how nice all the neighbors are. Even with the stay-at-home orders in place, people will chat with us across the street and welcome us to the area. In fact, one of our neighbors (Cor Photography) took these photos as part of a front porch special she was offering. I’m so happy to have these photos to commemorate this time—good, bad, and weird!
We were possibly most excited to live somewhere with a lot of foliage and mature trees. Everything has turned SO green in the last two weeks and we are loving the back deck of our new home so much. Since we have been living in the desert climate for the past 10 ish years, being around lush greenery where birds chirp all day and at night you can hear frogs and crickets—y’all. It’s amazing. It’s like Disney World.
Looking forward to sharing more!
Love, Shauna

Congratulations to both of you! My sister went to Duke and we love that area. And agreed on the green foliage and birds chirping! Arkansas feels like a jungle compared to Colorado and although Colorado will always have my heart, I am here for this Southern weather. ?❤️?
