Hi friends! I’m baaaaaaack! I meant to post this a couple weeks ago to announce that I was going to participate in the One Room Challenge again. But, then I realized that I had a little bit too much going on to commit to it. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t have a room in mind to redo! In fact, I’m still planning on working on it, just slower… My hopeful completion time will be Christmas Day, this year.
In the Spring I took on the Guest Bedroom, so which room is in store this time around? I’ll be redoing our library! It’s a room in our house that is right by the front door and it’s supposed to be a formal dining room, but since we barely use our actual dining table (#millennials), I knew as soon as we moved in to this home that we would be doing something else with that space. When you walk in the front door it’s actually the first thing you see. The room has a nice window that faces a courtyard, but due to all the tree coverage outside, it doesn’t get a ton of light. It’s also attached to our kitchen and is very open to the foyer. If you’re confused, check out the floor plan here. We decided that it would be a nice space to house our books and create a place to sit and work on a laptop, read, or have a drink. I’ll be sharing a mood board, but first, I’d like to show you what it looked like when we moved into this home a year and a half ago, and some images of what it’s evolved into before this challenge.
Like most of our house when we moved in, it’s very much a blank space. Have you ever moved to a new home and become completely overwhelmed with all the boxes everywhere?? I’ve heard that it’s very good for you, mentally, to finish one space, that way you have a place you can relax when you hate being surrounded by all the clutter (physically and emotionally). When we were unpacking everything, this room actually was the first space that I finished. I opted to unpack it first because I realized that I got great bang for my buck, so to speak, by unpacking boxes of books (they get unpacked quickly because you don’t have to think about a bunch of smaller items and where they are going to go). The room became my safe space. And then I never really changed it. Here’s what it looked like soon after our move:
So what’s the game plan now? Well, we’ve had that green sleeper sofa for a while and I’m kind of over it, so I’m hoping to sell that, and replace it with two chairs. On the right hand side, I’d like to add built-in bookshelves, and on the left side, under the window, I’m hoping to find or build a media console/buffet/sideboard thing that can house our record player, speakers, and a lamp. Speaking of which, I’m hoping to add a lot of layers of lighting to the room. The whole goal is around creating a cozy space. I made this mood board a while ago and the vibe still holds true:
Stay tuned to see how it play out over the next couple months! Love, Shauna
