When we originally bought desks from CB2 for Matt and myself, I ordered the classic desk shape, but Matt was drawn to the wider, more shallow shape that they called a console. Now that Matt isn’t a student, there’s been a shift in our desk needs and we’re making the transition to a one desk household. Turns out that three of their filing cabinets fit perfectly under the console—see where my mind is going with this? It’s been no surprise around here that I’ve wanted to add some of CB2’s filing cabinets to our office space for a very long time.

The main problem is that I’m cheap and have never wanted to spend the money on getting them all at once. However, I also don’t like the idea of purchasing them separately and paying three times the amount of shipping either. So, the filing cabinet situation has just remained in limbo for a while. Until one day, when I decided I was going to buy one. Finally! And then, a serendipitous surprise happened when I was checking out. In the shipping section, it gave me a second option for pickup. I thought that seemed strange because there are only a handful of CB2 physical store locations around the US, and I knew there wasn’t one in Denver. I clicked it anyway and something wonderful happened. It asked me to put in my zip code to locate the nearest warehouse. And I mean warehouse, not in a cute term for a large store kind of way, but more like a distribution center. And there was one minutes away from my office!!!!!!! As if you can’t tell here, I was so excited that I promptly sent Matt this text:
So what does living near a warehouse location actually mean? In this case, it meant that I could schedule a date and time to pick up my purchase from the warehouse and avoid the shipping charge on the item. Which for me, meant I could buy one filing cabinet at a time and not spend any more than if I were buying them all at once!
I placed the order and scheduled a date to pick up my filing cabinet from the warehouse, waited a couples weeks, and then drove over to get it on my lunch break one Tuesday. The warehouse did advise me the size of the box I was picking up so that I would be sure that is was going to fit in my car. I didn’t pay too much attention to it because I was only getting one smallish thing, but if I were to do this later with dining room chairs, then I’ll pay more attention.
I checked in, signed their sheet, and two men put my new filing cabinet in my car. Oh happy day! It fits under the console perfectly. Sooner or later, I’ll get around to ordering two more. And some dining room chairs. And who knows what else? I just know that I won’t pay for shipping again because I’ll just pick it up at the warehouse!
Note: This post isn’t sponsored by CB2, I just love the brand. Most of our furnishings have come from them. They are a sister company of Crate & Barrel, but I find them to be more affordable, more colorful, and more modern.
