One of my least favorite part about moving is seeing how dirty the inside of drawers are once you take all of your belongings out of them. Do you know what I’m talking about? I think it was because of this that I was inspired to place liners in all of our new townhouse drawers, as well as a lot of shelves and under sink surfaces. But not only that, I wanted to make it look good too!
This was a really simple project, just time consuming. My idea was to first find some clear shelf liners, which I ended up going with multiple sizes of this one and used whichever one was more efficient to use based on the size of the shelf or drawer. Then, the exciting part, pick out some pretty paper to put underneath! Matt and I went to Two Hands Paperie in Boulder to find what we were looking for. Half of their back room is lined with displays of fine paper options. We both picked our favorites and bought them!
Once we were home with all the supplies, I measured each drawer or shelf that I wanted a liner on, laid out my materials and made the appropriate cuts so they would fit. The fine paper, I only used in drawers, whereas shelves just got a plain old clear liner since I’m not tall enough to see anything pretty that might be hiding under them anyway.
We definitely had some fun with the papers we bought. We picked out some food related paper for the kitchen, like one that’s based on coffee and another with drawings of different fruits and vegetables. There was one I liked with bugs on it that I got vetoed on, but I did get one with fish and the other one with eggs! Maybe I’ll sneak the bugs in later… As long as it goes in one of the lesser used drawers–hahah!
My absolute favorite pick though, is this mermaid and octopus print that I put in our master and guest bathrooms. Matt and I have a cute octopus connection that goes back to when we started dating so it’s always been a sweet symbol to us, and who doesn’t love mermaids?!?
To protect our new cabinet drawers, I even went one step further and got a ton of small, clear bins from The Container Store (gosh, I love that place). I played Tetris in all our bathrooms, our kitchen, and our office drawers to see what fit best as far as the situation allowed.
Overall, I’m very happy with the results. I’m not saying that every drawer is perfectly organized, but the clutter is at least grouped by the bins. Hopefully, whenever the time comes for us to move out, the drawers won’t be as gross as the last move! And also, it makes me smile every time I see a little glimpses of those fine papers.
Love, Shauna
