Welcome to our wedding ceremony. I’m excited to share it with you, my blog readers! It was so incredibly special and, as everyone says, it was over in a snap! I’m super thankful for these photos, songs and memories that I have to keep. Without further ado…
As our guests arrived, they were led into the reception site first. Inside, we opted not to have a guest book, but we did have a map where everyone was asked to place a pin where they were born, where they traveled from, and where there is a warrant out for their arrest. (Whoever made the trail up to Canada, A+!)
Back outside, guests walked about 5 minutes down a short trail to the ceremony site that was in the middle of a meadow. The benches made of trees were so great, and, although we talked about decorating the venue, we ultimately decided to let the natural beauty shine through—after all, it was wildflower season!
It’s kind of all a blur, but the first song that played as Matt walked out with his mom was “I Choose You” by Sara Bareilles. As my mom was escorted by my brothers, and our party walked down, “La Vie En Rose” by Louis Armstrong played. And the song that I walked down the aisle to was Lennon & Maisy’s cover of “Boom Clap”.
I love the lyric, “no silver or no gold, could dress me up so good, you’re the glitter in […] my world”. Appropriate for my gold dress!
We asked Matt’s long-time friend, Brian, to be our officiant. He exceeded all expectations by being personable but not selfish, and allowing us to remain the stars of day.
My dear friend, Page, said a few words during the ceremony as well. We liked how Brian’s practicalness balanced with Page’s hippieness—a perfect blend.
We said our written vows, exchanged rings and Matt only cried a little bit. It was beautiful.
I have a dazed memory of it in my mind, but in these photos it’s much more clear (Thank you, Katie Rivera!)
Brian pronounced us husband and wife and we were wiggling our butts down the aisle to the sound of “Everyday” by Buddy Holly (a little nod to the Lubbock days). It was a perfect moment. We couldn’t have hoped for more.
A husband of one of the bridesmaids is a vlogger and made a video of our day that you can see on his YouTube channel, Aaron’s Hobbies Presents (he gets to the venue about the 1:30 minute mark).
Thank you for sharing our special day! Love, Shauna
