The whole time that we were planning the wedding, I was so sure that my dad would give a speech. So sure, in fact, that I never actually had a conversation with him about it! During the dinner portion, he leaned over and said, “hey, should I say something?” And in true Chuck fashion, with little heads up, he still slayed.
Some of the other toast highlights include Matt’s dad, Jeff, gifting us with our laminated marriage license, Joann reading “Sheep in a Jeep” to her son one more time, James reminiscing on some great Illinois State University and running stories, and Bridget rounding it out by getting everyone to chant, “GET READY, BITCH” with her. I am so, truly happy to be surrounded by these people and it was a great way to start the party!
Matt and I picked “For the Longest Time” by Billy Joel for our first dance. I remember playing it in the car for him when we first started dating, and I think that stuck with him. We took a few dancing lessons and our teacher, Maren, said it was an unusual first dance song, and we liked that!
I chose the song “Better than Love” by Griffin House as my father/daughter dance song. I had a hard time finding a song that I liked but wasn’t too sappy. In the end, the song turned out to be sappy, but in a way that I liked.
Matt and his mom danced to “Unforgettable” by Natalie Cole which was decided upon approximately 15 minutes before the dance. Classic Matt (love you!).
Don’t you love the dancing photos in black and white?!? I do!
Love, Shauna
